Becoming a member of Kol Ami signifies the importance of community in our often-fragmented lives.  As a congregation, we strive to care for one another in times of trouble and to share the joy of accomplishments and milestones.  Becoming a member means you have a Jewish home in the world, a place to practice kindness, to make Jewish values come alive, to become known and to get to know others.  A congregational buddy can sometimes help new members get to know Kol Ami and feel acclimated more quickly.  If you’re interested, our Members & Visitors Team will be happy to make the introduction!

Kol Ami is a participatory congregation. Giving our talents, passion, and time to Kol Ami every year is a responsibility shared by all members and is also a crucial part of what defines our community.  We ask that each adult member, as able, help out with setup and cleanup for at least two Shabbat services, and help with two holiday or congregation events each year.  Additional details are in Kol Ami’s Member Participation policy

Dues:

Regular Annual dues are $775 for single membership, or $1,375 for family membership.  Membership includes Kol Ami’s High Holiday services.  Dues are tax-deductible.  The membership year is July 1 thru June 30.

Sustainer Dues:  Those willing and able are invited to join at Sustainer Levels:  single membership ($1,200) or family membership ($2,500). These contributions more accurately reflect the costs of running our congregation and assist in providing a stable financial footing.

— Hebrew School Tuition:  Tuition for the Jewish Children’s Education Program (JCEP) is $325 for the first child and $175 for additional children. Tuition is not tax-deductible.

Out of Town Friends:  People who do not live in or near enough to the Washington, D.C. region, including former members who have moved away, are encouraged to join as Friends of Kol Ami. Dues for Friends are $300 per year.

Pro-Rated Dues:  New members joining after January 1 will be charged half the regular amount.  Payments made for High Holiday services may be applied to the current year’s dues.

Financial hardship should never be a barrier to full participation and membership at Kol Ami.  If you are unable to make full payment or want to arrange a payment plan, please have a confidential conversation with Kol Ami’s Treasurer or rabbi.
