On Shabbat, our tradition tells us, the world is perfect. It is hard to reconcile that with Yom ha-Shoah, when we commemorate the Holocaust. But maybe we can think about our May 3 Kabbalat Shabbat time together as a time when the bond between our ancestors and us, their world and our world, will get re-woven, and we can get a glimpse of the unbroken Jewish continuity we live out, each in our own way, and together as a community. This will be a child- and family-friendly service; and please feel free to invite your friends, Jewish and non-Jewish. Richard Ruth will be leading, and promises to keep the service to an hour. He also promises that the Shabbat Queen will be bringing a tangible present to everyone who attends.
