Kol Ami — The Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community

Kabbalat Shabbat led by Herb Levy and Caron Dale

May 31, 2019, 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington
4444 Arlington Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22204

Caron Dale and Herb Levy will lead a service that puts Kabbalah back into Kabbalat Shabbat. In Safed, it is the custom of Kabbalists to dress in white on Friday afternoon and pray on the hillsides to welcome the Shabbat. At Kol Ami, wearing white is a tradition we practice on Yom Kippur. Caron and Herb encourage those attending this service to wear white.

Friday night not only is the beginning of Shabbat, but it is also the beginning of Yom Yerushalayim, commemorating the day in June 1967 that Jews, once again, have access to the site of the ancient Temples. We’ll celebrate Yom Yerushalayim with songs led by Caron, who many know is the lead singer for the Klezmer band Lox n’ Vodka and is a Cantorial Soloist. Please bring a dessert to share. We’re in the Chapel.
