Kol Ami — The Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community

Nitzavim Committee Meeting

February 12, 2017, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington
4444 Arlington Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22204

Responding to the times and after deliberation and discernment, Kol Ami has launched a Nitzavim Committee to both carefully take appropriate stands as a congregation and to inform Kol Amites about how to take individual action should they choose to do so. Kol Ami is committed to defending minorities, civil and human rights, freedom of speech and religion, and due process. Nitzavim means “standing” and comes from the Torah portion where Moses says to the Israelites: “You are standing here today, all of you ….” to affirm the covenant once more.

This first Nitzavim Committee Meeting will focus on the executive orders on immigration and refugees– education on the topic, what people can do individually, and a proposal that we institutionally sign on as a Welcome Campaign Congregation with HIAS, formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

Kol Ami created a new listserv (on google groups) for discussion of these issues. If you would like to join please go to

We’ll be in the Activity Room.
