Not in God’s Name: Does the Bible Justify Today’s Religious Violence? led by Rabbi Gilah Langner and Reverend Linda Olson Peebles

Is religion to blame for religious extremism and violence? In his latest book, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks acknowledges that the Bible has played a role in motivating religious violence. But he sets out to make religion part of the solution, as he presents a radical rereading of the Hebrew Bible and the all-important stories of sibling rivalry in Genesis. Do you agree? How does Sacks’ reading of the Bible change or confirm our current way of thinking? We’ll read excerpts from the book and discuss. The class is open to the public; we particularly invite members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington to attend. We’re in the Board Room.
