June is LGBT Pride Month. It marks the 51st anniversary of the events at Stonewall, when, for the first time, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people declared we would no longer be ashamed of who we were, and would live with pride.
This year, Kol Ami will have its first Pride Shabbat. We invite all members of our community, LGBT and allies, young and old to join together for this special Shabbat service. We will sing, pray, study the Torah, and celebrate being a Jewish community where everyone, no matter who we are, is welcome and can live with pride. We have our fingers crossed that a local LGBT elected official may be able to join us at the service and say a few words.
This Shabbat service is being led by Richard Ruth and Sean Bender Prouty with Pride.
