Kol Ami — The Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community

Inclusion at Kol Ami

Inclusion and Accessibility at Kol Ami

We at the Kol Ami Reconstructionist Congregation of Northern Virginia strive to make our community welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for all our members and guests. Our priority is to make sure that all who join us can fully participate in worship and other activities.

Our congregation meets at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, which is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. There is ground-level wheelchair access to the Sanctuary, and an elevator and ramps allow access to other parts of the building. The parking lot has handicapped-reserved spaces near the entrance, and there are automatic door openers in the main entrance and in the accessible restrooms. Kol Ami shares the UUCA’s spirit of “All Are Welcome Here.”

Creating an inclusive and accessible environment is an ongoing process that is led by our Care & Concern/Inclusion Committee. In addition to physical accommodations for people with disabilities, we also try to ensure a clean and safe environment for those with chemical sensitivities and food allergies.  That means asking members and visitors to attend our events scent-free (avoiding perfume and minimizing scented personal care products), and labeling ingredients when food is served.

Most services, minyans and educational programs are accessible online. We can also arrange to accommodate other special needs – please contact us.
