Kol Ami is Northern Virginia’s Reconstructionist Jewish community — a welcoming and spiritually rich place where people of all backgrounds can explore, celebrate, and deepen their Jewish life together. We are a growing, caring community of progressive Jews that meets in Arlington, VA. We come together in times of celebration and healing — for worship, deep conversation, learning, and mutual support — as we explore how Judaism can enrich our lives and strengthen our community. We are dedicated to sustaining Jewish life in an interactive, welcoming, and spiritually rich environment.
Whether you’re new to Judaism or seeking a vibrant place to belong, you are welcome here.
We affirm that God’s presence is reflected in every person: Jews by birth and Jews by choice; interfaith families and those exploring Judaism; people of all genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, abilities, ages, and family structures. Our community embraces the full diversity of Jewish life and experience.
In 2017, our congregation unanimously affirmed that our ritual and prayer services are fully and equally open to both Jewish and non-Jewish members. We are proud to be among the few congregations to formally uphold this practice as an expression of our values..
Kol Ami is a proud affiliate of the Reconstructing Judaism movement and the only Reconstructionist congregation in Virginia. As the fourth branch of Judaism, Reconstructionism blends tradition with innovation, fostering spiritual growth through inclusivity, egalitarianism, and deep engagement. The movement has its own rabbinical seminary and over 100 affiliated congregations and havurot nationwide.
