Tallit Making Workshop

March 15, 2026
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Let’s make Kol Ami services colorful with a rainbow of tallitot (prayer shawls)! Join Rabbi Julie Gordon for a hands-on workshop to create your very own tallit (prayer shawl). Participants will learn how to tie the tzitzit (fringes) on their new tallit so that it’s ready for use in services. The workshop is open to everyone, including teens and B-Mitzvah students.

There are two items you’ll need to participate. First, a shawl – you can use one you already own or purchase a new one. Second, an atarah (the shoulder piece at the top of the tallit), if you’d like one. The atarah traditionally marks the top of the tallit and includes the Hebrew blessing, which helps when putting it on.

Your shawl and atarah must be mailed to Rabbi Julie Gordon by February 20th. She will arrange for a tailor to sew buttonholes on the four corners of the shawl and attach the atarah at the top.

More detailed information is included on the registration form. Register Today. There is a $36 workshop fee to help cover the costs of the fringes and the tailor’s services. Registration closes February 15th.
