Kitchen Sink Series

Our Kitchen Sink Series offers pop-up learning opportunities ranging from presentations such as Personal Security in a Digital World, to hands-on experiences like challah-baking, to creative workshops including tallit-making.

These programs provide a vibrant mix of ways to explore, learn, and connect.

Challah Baking Workshop

Get ready to knead, braid, and bake at the home of Kol Ami member Jeremy Epstein! This hands-on workshop is open to teens and adults. Each participant group will make two challahs, with all ingredients provided.

Tallit Making Workshop

Experience the beauty and meaning of the Tallit with Rabbi Julie Gordon in this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn about the history, symbolism, and traditions behind the Tallit while crafting their own prayer shawl.

End of Life Issues: Thinking Through the Unthinkable

Join Rabbi Gilah and end-of-life doula Alison Butler for a three-part series exploring both the practical and spiritual dimensions of end-of-life planning.

Together, we’ll discuss advance directives, funeral arrangements, burial vs. cremation, and creating ethical wills, while also considering Jewish perspectives on the afterlife and how these traditions offer grounding, guidance, and compassion as we navigate important choices.

Spring Renewal:          Counting the Omer

 As we count the Omer during the seven weeks between Passover and Shavuot, we invite you to join us in exploring the power of poetry.

Together, we’ll share favorite poems, original writings, and works that spark curiosity and reflection.

This gathering provides an open, welcoming space to connect, contemplate, and celebrate the beauty of words as we move through this meaningful season.

Lunchtime Learning with Rabbi Bruce Aft 

Join Rabbi Bruce Aft and a lively group from four Northern Virginia congregations for engaging Monday lunchtime discussions on contemporary Jewish topics.

These sessions explore the wisdom of tradition and its relevance today, offering thought-provoking conversation in an accessible and welcoming setting.

Classes are held on Mondays from 12:30 – 1:30 pm virtually. You can register here to be added to the class list and receive updates.

Adult Talmud Study Group

Step into the world of the Talmud with Jacob Kelter in our monthly sessions, which are welcoming and open to learners of all levels.

Explore ancient Jewish law, philosophy, legends, and rabbinic debate in a setting that encourages curiosity, discussion, and thoughtful engagement.

Intro to Judaism / Conversion Class

Join Rabbi Gilah Langner and Mike Jawer for an engaging Intro to Judaism / Conversion Class designed for those considering conversion or seeking to deepen their Jewish knowledge. This course offers an overview of Jewish traditions, teachings, and practices, covering topics such as holidays, prayer, Torah, and Jewish values.

Each session provides a supportive space to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others, whether you are just beginning your Jewish journey or looking to strengthen your connection.

Classes meet on 18 Sundays from September 7, 2025, through May 31, 2026, mostly online with some in-person meetings. Register here to receive the syllabus and class updates.
