Rabbi Gilah Langner served as the spiritual leader of Kol Ami from 2016 to 2026. She brought her passion for Jewish texts and learning, joining Jewish values to social issues, and empowering people to find their spiritual core in Judaism.
Rabbi Gilah came to Kol Ami in 2016 after working in a wide range of settings since her ordination in 2003. She previously served the congregation Shirat Hanefesh in Chevy Chase, MD, was principal of both Shoreshim Hebrew School and Kehila Chadasha Hebrew School, led Jewish meditation sessions at the Jewish Mindfulness Center of Washington at Adas Israel, and spent eight years as a visiting chaplain at Georgetown University Hospital and at senior residences. She also taught as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University and Catholic University of America, and co-directed the Washington Jewish Healing Network.
Rabbi Langner taught adult education classes and workshops for over thirty years in the Washington area. She was the founding publisher and co-editor of Kerem: Creative Explorations in Judaism, and published numerous prayers and articles, including the “Ask the Rabbi” column in Moment Magazine.
After a decade of spiritual leadership at Kol Ami, Rabbi Gilah Langner retired from her role as Rabbi in 2026 and was honored with the title of Rabbi Emerita. During her tenure, she helped nurture Kol Ami’s growth, deepen its commitment to learning and community, and guide congregants through celebrations, challenges, and milestones. We are grateful for her years of service and ongoing connection to the Kol Ami family.
