Tikkun Olam

(Repairing the World)

Kol Ami members widely engage in tikkun olam, acts of community service and social justice advocacy intended to repair our world. We participate in a wide range of social justice and community service efforts, in an effort to fulfill our sacred responsibility to help repair the world.

Kol Ami members frequently respond to local needs and put our values into action. From 2022 to 2025, the K.A.R.E. Project (Kol Ami Afghan Refugee Engagement) brought members together to support Afghan refugee families settling in Northern Virginia

Building on this tradition, Kol Ami has established the Tikkun Olam Fund honoring Rabbi Emeritus Gilah Langner, made possible through the generosity of Rayna Aylward and Ed Bomsey. The Fund will support social justice and community organizations while creating opportunities for our community to put our values into action.

The Fund launched with the goal of raising $3,000 in monetary and diaper/formula donations for Food Justice DMV, an all-volunteer organization working across DC, Maryland, and Virginia to connect neighbors with food and other essential resources.

Recommended by Rabbi Gilah, Food Justice DMV brings together more than 700 volunteers who have helped provide food and other support to more than 1.5 million people. Their work extends beyond food distribution to connecting neighbors with clothing, furniture, and resource coaching around housing, healthcare, and other urgent needs.
