Kol Ami — The Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community
|The Kol Amites are the congregation’s resident musical ensemble. They perform on the High Holy Days and other times of the year, such as Bnai Mitzvahs, the Hanukkah party, and more. Through the music of the Kol Amite band, Kol Ami has been developing a wider repertoire of Jewish and Israeli contemporary music. We happily sing melodies from Nava Tehila in Jerusalem, Craig Taubman, Debbie Friedman z”l, and many other modern composers. Multi-generational and multi-talented, our musicians include both professionals and amateurs who appreciate the special way that music can deepen the communal experience of prayer. Our Kol Amite musicians perform under the leadership of Jason Wright, who arranges our music and cantorial soloists Leslie Lesner and Jim North.
“For the Love of Music at Kol Ami” Kol Ami is blessed with a deep bench of professional and spiritually-gifted musicians of all ages. This Washington Jewish Week article (3/31/2022) takes a closer look at how Kol Ami continued to weave music throughout its services during the pandemic.
Introducing the Junior Kol Amites (Washington Jewish Week, January 2020) When elementary and middle school musicians at Kol Ami wanted to share their talents, Kol Ami music director Jason Wright signed on as their conductor. The Junior Kol Amites now add joyful music to holidays throughout the year.
