Mike Jawer will lead a short summer service including a discussion of compelling issues in parsha Chukat. It’s a turbulent time in our people’s history – Miriam and Aaron both die, and so does Moses’ dream of entering the promised land. We’ll talk about the necessity of transitions (even if we don’t exactly welcome them), and the centrality of mourning to healing. We’ll even consider the bizarre prescriptions around sacrifice of the “red heifer.” Think Red Heifer sounds like a cool band name? It does – but what else to make of it? We will be downstairs in the chapel. Please bring a dessert to share.
