Kol Ami joins Jewish congregations across the country in observing the National Council of Jewish Women’s “Repro Shabbat.” In less than a year after Roe v. Wade was overturned, state abortion bans now affect 58% of Americans who can get pregnant. Nevertheless, abortion bans reflect a specific Christian definition of the beginning of life. Rabbi Gilah will be discussing the religious freedom issues at stake, and will be joined by Rose Espinola who will share with us their research into Jewish postpartum rituals and traditions. Rose Espinola (they/them) is a student in Aleph’s Earth-Based Judaism program and a member of Ammud: The Jews of Color Torah Academy.
