Kol Ami has a tradition of sponsoring a High Holidays Tikkun Olam Project and we’re not letting that Delta variant get in our way! Like our services, this year our Tikkun Olam project is online. For our project this year we will be supporting the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Even before the pandemic, demand for food assistance was on the rise. COVID has only made it worse. According to AFAC (quoting the Capital Area Food Bank’s Hunger 2020 Report) 15,870 individuals in Arlington are food insecure (having limited or uncertain access to food, reduced food intake, and disrupted eating patterns). Last year, AFAC served 14,150 total individuals, or 89% of reported food insecure individuals. During the first months of the pandemic, grocery store donations to AFAC dropped by 25%, while the number of eligible referrals jumped by 45% and the number of families served rose by 33%. You can learn more about AFAC and how it serves people in need in our community here. If you want to participate, please donate at this link https://www.kolamivirginia.org/donate/ and note that this donation is for AFAC. Thank you!!
