Rabbi Bruce is back with a dynamic weekly Torah study session — this year on Wednesday lunchtimes. Drop in on occasion or make it a weekly date on your calendar. It’s always engaging, lively, and insightful. This year we extend a special welcome to members of Congregation Beth Emeth and Fauquier Jewish Congregation who may be joining us.
Join us for services on December 4th as we return to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington for a regular service on Shabbat Hanukkah. We'll be in the Activity Room on the lower floor, with the service led by Rabbi Gilah and Jim North. Let's celebrate the time of miracles, past and present! The Torah reading for Shabbat Hanukkah is always the Joseph story; this year our discussion will focus on ancient and modern queer readings of Joseph.
The service will also be available via Zoom. Please contact Amy at for the Zoom Link. The siddur is available electronically here. The Torah reading is available here. The handout for the Torah discussion is here. Please click on the blue title, Shabbat Hanukkah Service, above to get active links.
Join Morah Andrea Cate for worship, music and a joyful Hanukkah experience for our little ones (ages 2-7) and their loving adults at 11 a.m. at the UUCA.
Come celebrate the holiday at our annual Hanukkah Party! We're moving the party indoors -- we'll be in the Center Room and Fellowship Hall at the UU from 6-7 pm. We'll light candles, sing songs, play dreidel, and more. Food is not allowed in the building, but we'll send you off with a Hanukkah treat at the end! Please bring a hanukkiah (Hanukkah menorah) and candles so we can spread more light on this eighth night of Hanukkah. And don't forget to bring a paperback book to donate to Free Minds, a Tikkun Olam project.

The joys of Hanukkah now behind us, we have an opportunity for more enjoyable time together this coming Shabbat. Please join co-leaders Richard Ruth and Jim North for our morning service. (We had hoped to be in person again, but, as we work more on all the moving pieces that come with attempting hybrid services, we'll be on Zoom this week.)
The Torah portion this week is Vayigash ("He approached"), where the saga of Joseph and his brothers concludes with them approaching each other in reconciliation and shared purpose after their years of bitter separation. Surely an important story for our own turbulent times! Look forward to music, prayer, Torah study, and time together in community. No latkes or jelly donuts until next year, though. We'll be using our Shabbat siddur (prayer book).

David Roth will join Herb Levy for this Zoom-Only Shabbat service. David Roth's music includes songs like May the Light of Love and Rising in Love. Parsha Vayechi closes Bereishit/Genesis with the story of Jacob’s death and the blessings and totems he gives to his sons (but not his daughter.) We'll talk about how far we've come with sexism in Judaism, and how far we still have to go.
