Jews in Space: A Virtual Tour

Kol Ami has arranged for a virtual tour of the Jews in Space Exhibit currently on display at the Jewish Museum of Maryland. Families and Kol Amites of all ages are invited to gather by Zoom to light candles, sing songs, schmooze, and more! Schmoozing will begin at 5pm with the Hanukkah program beginning at 5:30.  We'll hold our first (annual?) Latke-Hamantash Debate, wherein an esteemed panel of Kol Ami members will expound on the superiority of one of these foods, with arguments buttressed by the cherished tools and techniques of their chosen professions, yada yada yada ... and a good time will be had by all!  Kol Ami folks are invited to contribute a 20-30 second video recording of anyone in their family answering the age-old question:  Which is better, a latke or a hamantash?  Visitors, please click the above event link to register.

The speaker this morning is Matt Adler (pictured) who returned from an extended stay in Israel with a fascinating perspective as a gay Jew speaking both Hebrew and Arabic. Matt will shed light on the less-seen parts of this country he's fallen in love with, and will share with us his adventures in Jewish, Muslim, and Druze communities that are described in his recently published book. A native of Washington, D.C., Matt lived in the Yad Eliyahu neighborhood of Tel Aviv during the adventures on which this book is based. Jews in Science Fiction

Jews and Science Fiction, led by Herb Levy. Bring in the new year and celebrate Science Fiction Day on Jan. 2, the birthday of Isaac Asimov, perhaps the best known Jewish science fiction writer. We'll look at the major contribution Jewish writers have made to Science Fiction, but also look at the seminal role Jews have played in comics. We'll also touch on the role Jews have played in stories by non-Jewish writers. This program is part of our 2021 Adult Education series.
